BUBBLE BOBBLE is one of the first games that involve blowing bubbles; it has since been the inspiration for many successors. Up to this day, it maintains a strong presence in the minds of its audience. A mobile-friendly remake of the classic game is currently available from the publisher Mobirix. Called BUBBLE BOBBLE classic, this version features additional features in addition to the original gameplay.

In the classic version of BUBBLE BOBBLE, Bob is the character chosen instead of Bub. The new character Bubblun is featured in the console version. Both versions of the game involve Bob and Bub moving through platforms to shoot a ball. In the classic version of BUBBLE BOBBLE, the game no longer features side-scrolling. This change means that each level only has one screen; players must be prepared for enemies that are waiting in different locations. Cleverly maneuver through gaps to jump to higher positions or fall to lower ones. Blowing the next level's bubbles grants access to new levels. Defeating every enemy unlocks the next level, which you can blow unlimitedly. These bubbles can be used to eliminate enemies by having them collide with each other. Destroying enemies grants the player bonuses such as extra points or dropped items. Reclaiming lost territory faster than the enemy can replace it grants even more bonuses. To win this game faster, players need to develop a winning strategy. After a certain amount of time, these bubbles will automatically burst. The classic version of BUBBLE BOBBLE adds ranking features. Each time you shoot a bubble, your score goes up; this records your ranking. Rankings stay in place and keep track of the top performers.

Occasionally, special bubbles appear that can attack enemies with magic such as water, lightning or fire. This makes killing enemies easier because of the bubbles' powers. In the game, players may earn three types of special bubbles. Each one represents a different element and has unique abilities. One example is the ability of fire-themed bubbles to increase their damage output. Additionally, the water, thunder and fire themed bubbles are much stronger than normal bubbles. Water bubbles can suffocate enemies by drowning out their sounds. Fire bubbles can create many fires that reduce the enemy's fire attacks. Lightning balls can transport enemies through the air, pushing them horizontally. You can also use certain items to strengthen your character. Use candies to increase the speed, range and flight speed of the bubbles' blows; likewise, you can use red shoes to increase Bubblun's movement speed. Additionally, you can use other items to increase blow speed, range and flight speed.

You need more powerful or unique equipment to overcome the enemy. You can use additional resources such as special items that help you win. Holy water temporarily increases a person's score by a large amount. It also eliminates all enemies on the current screen simultaneously. The Chackn Heart grants greater defensive power that cannot be damaged. Frozen enemies stopped for a time are Clock-enabled. Additional items you can use include Monocle, Parasol, Necklaces with Magical properties and a Sky Blue Ring.

Today's games often feature realistic 3D graphics. However, many modern games use retro-themed 2D graphics instead. This style is prominent in BUBBLE BOBBLE classic, which features nostalgic art reminiscent of classic Nintendo games. People who enjoy this aesthetic will feel right at home with the game. Playing the game to relax and enjoy the musicality is further encouraged by the inclusion of pleasant tunes.

- Water bubbles: Special bubble that flows the water down to defeat the enemies.
- Fire bubbles: Special bubble that drops the fire and creates multiple fires.
- Lightning bubbles: Special bubble that can be blown horizontally to defeat the enemies.

[Item]
- Holy water: Removing all enemies on the screen, and available to get additional scores in limited time.
- Parasol: Allows to jump numerous stages. Depends on color of parasol, the jumped stages are different.
- Magical staff: All remaining bubbles on the screen will turn into food, and also a large food will fall down.
- Sky blue Ring: Able to get extra points each time the Bubblun moves.
- Chack'n Heart: Transforms to invincible Bubblun that defeat the enemies.
- Magical necklaces: Shining ball bounces around the stage, and defeat the enemies.
- Clock: Freezing the monsters in certain amount of time.
